Austria: Achieving target of installing 41GW of photovoltaic systems by 2040

Jul 05, 2024

A recent study by the Austrian Federal Photovoltaic Association (PV Austria) highlights the importance of photovoltaic power generation in the country's economy. The report points out that Austria added about 134,000 photovoltaic systems in 2023, with a total installed capacity of 2.6GW.

By the end of 2023, Austria had installed a total of about 390,000 photovoltaic systems with an installed capacity of 6.4GW. Photovoltaic power generation can meet 12% of Austria's current electricity demand. However, the association is more cautious about its forecast for economic growth this year. Therefore, it is urgent to gain new momentum to further expand the scale of photovoltaic power generation. Austria's photovoltaic market is on track and is expected to maintain a long-term and stable growth trend in the future.

Vera Immitzer, general manager of the Austrian Federal Photovoltaic Association (PV Austria), explained, "The overall economic situation is somewhat tense at present, and this trend is also obvious in the field of green technology, but we firmly believe that the future prospects of the photovoltaic industry are still bright." He said that the Austrian government has set a goal of installing 41GW of photovoltaic systems by 2040.
