Italy added 3.34GW of photovoltaic capacity in the first half of 2024

Sep 09, 2024

Recently, the Italian industry association ItaliaSolare reported that Italy's new photovoltaic installed capacity reached 3.34GW in the first half of 2024. In the same period of 2023, the state installed about 2.3GW of photovoltaics, achieving a full-year growth of 5.23GW. As of the end of June, Italy's cumulative photovoltaic installed capacity reached 33.62GW.

29% (985MW) of the newly installed capacity in the first half of this year consisted of private household photovoltaic systems below 20 kilowatts and 35% (1155MW) of commercial and industrial systems (C&I) with a capacity of 20 to 200 kilowatts. The remaining 36% (1201MW) came from photovoltaic systems with a capacity of more than 1MW. The increase in this part was due to the connection of 17 plants with a capacity of more than 10MW, totaling 540MW.

"The data shows that the power plant industry is finally starting to grow, and the licenses granted are gradually reflected in the plants built and connected to the grid," said Paolo Rocco Viscontini, president of ItaliaSolare.
